Dunethin Rock is a small volcanic dome monolith with a relatively flat rock summit. It is suitable for inexperienced climbers although caution must be taken when wet.

As a popular picnic spot and destination for excursionists, Dunethin Rock and the esplanade parkland was associated with local tourism from as early as 1910 and was added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 2009. Take a 200 metre walk up the gravel road from the public amenities block and explore the plateau or just sit and take in the expansive views.

The bushland reserve network is a series of land parcels that stretches 1.8 kilometres to the south and covers over 37 hectares. The area, made up on volcanic and metamorphic rocks, has been recorded to contain 265 native plant species.
