Council endorsed the Thriving Futures: Sunshine Coast Youth Plan 2026-31 (PDF, 10.2MB) at its ordinary meeting on 26 March 2026. The Youth Plan helps to prioritise actions that Council, together with young people and community partners, will take to improve the lives of young people. These actions will be implemented over the next five years.

About the Youth Plan

The Youth Plan aims to improve opportunities for young people to participate in our community. Council is committed to supporting our young people and recognises the value of their contributions in shaping our region.

Council and our community are already doing a lot to support young people. This plan recognises this existing work and builds on it through targeted actions that respond directly to the priorities of young residents.

The actions are grouped into three priority areas: we belong herewe are valued and we have opportunities.

We belong here

Young people want to feel connected, healthy, safe and included. Key themes include mental health, connections, things to do and spaces to hang out.

We are valued

Young people want to be respected, listened to and recognised for their contributions.

We have opportunities

Young people want access to education and employment opportunities, affordable housing, reliable transport and a protected natural environment.

Community engagement

These priorities are based on the voices, experiences and ideas of young residents of the Sunshine Coast. More than 1,200 young people contributed to the Youth Plan through community engagement in 2025, including through the Young Leaders Academy, a youth forum, pop-up events and an online survey. Council would like to thank everyone who participated.

Alternative formats

The plan is available in a large print/screen reader friendly (Word, 71KB) version.

The Youth Plan should be accessible for all members of our community. If you need support to access the Youth Plan in another format, please contact Council.
