Council adopted the Sunshine Coast Public Art Plan at its Ordinary Meeting on 24 July 2025.

Public art is a powerful expression of who we are as a region. 

It brings our stories to life, sparks imagination, and creates vibrant, meaningful places. 

Purpose

This plan sets a clear direction for how we’ll grow and care for our public art collection, ensuring it reflects our identity, supports local creatives, and enhances the places we live, work and visit.

Vision

To be a region alive with arts, culture and creativity - where public art enriches community life, reflects our identity, and inspires imagination.

Goals and Focus Areas

Goals
  • Embed public art into the heart of urban design and development.
  • Celebrate the Sunshine Coast’s unique culture, stories, and landscapes.
  • Inspire community pride and creative expression.
  • Leverage opportunities like the Brisbane 2032 Games to showcase regional identity.
Focus areas
  1. Governance – Establish clear frameworks and policies for public art development and maintenance.
  2. Capacity Development – Support local artists, engage Traditional Custodians, and foster innovation.
  3. Promotion and Advocacy – Raise awareness and appreciation of public art across the region.
  4. Public Art Collection – Grow and care for a diverse, meaningful, and high-quality collection.
