The purpose of the Caloundra Town reserve landscape concept plan (PDF, 4022KB) is to define the future uses for the reserve. Feedback received during community consultation and current council's policies and strategies were used to develop this plan.

The key outcomes are to:

  • enhance the recreation opportunities of the site including but not limited to mountain bike infrastructure, walking trails, open space and community facilities
  • improve the site’s connections to the wider area
  • maintain the sites environmental values

Community engagement

This project involved 2 phases of community engagement from February to June 2017. Phase 1 allowed the community to share their ideas and provide input into the concept design. Phase 2 was an invitation to the community to comment on the concept plan.

Community feedback was collated through on-line survey responses, letters and emails. Feedback was reviewed and considered in the development of a final concept plan.

Where to from here

The Caloundra Town reserve landscape plan will be delivered through a staged process of priority work subject to council's budget approval process over future years.  Updates on the project will be made available on this website.

Project update

Works to develop the park will commence in early 2021 with council successful in obtaining COVID-19 Works for Queensland funding from the Queensland Government to jointly fund the activation of this area.

Stage 1 works include:

  • amenities block with unisex toilets and shower
  • commercial café and bike repair/hire facility
  • covered barbecue shelter with tables and seating
  • additional seating and landscaping
  • water fountains with bottle refill taps.

Council obtained the trusteeship of the land known as Caloundra Town reserve from the Queensland State Government in 2015. The land was transferred to council for the purposes of open space.

Following the land transfer, council resolved a community request to preserve the existing mountain bike trails on the site. Council is currently working in partnership with Caloundra Off Road Cycling Association Inc. (CORCA) to formalise, maintain, and improve the mountain bike trail network that currently exists in the reserve.

For more information on the current trail management at Caloundra Town reserve, please refer to Sugar Bag MTB trails.

The reserve consists of approximately 49ha of bush land and caters for informal recreational, social, cultural and leisure activities for the community. The site currently contains an infrastructure corridor identified by the Department of Main Roads in the Caboolture to Maroochydore corridor study. Proposed infrastructure and use of the reserve may be affected in the future by development of this State transport infrastructure corridor. Please refer to CAMCOS corridor map (PDF, 116KB).
