Dicky Beach Precinct Plan
The Dicky Beach precinct plan was adopted at Council's Ordinary Meeting on 10 November 2016. Stages 1 and 2 are now complete.
The Dicky Beach precinct plan (PDF, 3040KB) was a multiple stage project which has been completed over several years.
Purpose
The Dicky Beach precinct plan was developed in response to the partial removal of the SS Dicky wreck in 2015. The plan references the wreck’s significance to the local area and includes open space, interpretive elements and a range of new and improved community facilities to help enhance the experience of the area.
The plan also seeks to better connect the park with the adjacent commercial area, holiday park, beach and surf lifesaving club house.
Key design outcomes
- Define the long-term vision for the foreshore
- Develop the precinct's identity to support and distinguish this important local centre
- Maximise the recreation, social, cultural and economic opportunities within the Dicky Beach precinct
- Create a safe and usable precinct area that is high quality, comfortable, safe, accessible and inviting
- Incorporating interpretive initiatives that reference the SS Dicky along with the holiday making and recreational heritage of the site
- Improve the connectivity, open space, recreation and play, social gatherings and arrival experience.

Project update
The project was completed across several stages.
Stage 1 construction March-September 2021
Stage 1 construction is complete and included:
- a new public amenities building
- a new skate park
- a new picnic shelter
- new pathways
- new beach shower
- new park lighting and electrical infrastructure
- improved PWD (disability) parking space
- new furniture such as seating, drinking fountain, bike parking, bins
- landscaping
- reinstatement of the SS Dicky propeller feature.
Dicky Beach Precinct Plan - Stage 1
Stage 2 construction completed March 2024
Stage 2 construction is now complete and upgrades included:
- viewing deck
- interpretive signage and wreck pieces of the S.S. Dicky
- custom furniture and seating
- connecting pathways
- beach Access improvements
- picnic settings
- drainage swales and improvements
- tree planting and garden beds.
The project is supported by the Sunshine Coast Council Arts and Heritage Levy.
The Levy, which is a contribution by every rateable property, is used to document, research, conserve, protect, promote and provide access to those tangible and intangible items, places, facilities and events that define the stories, history and values of the people, communities and culture of the Sunshine Coast.

Community engagement
When Council adopted the Dicky Beach precinct plan, it included the Dicky Beach Skate Park. It was determined that the skate park would be retained in Dicky Beach park and upgraded, in line with the original Dicky Beach precinct plan design.
Council invited the community to have their say on the three proposed design options of the skate park by participating in an online survey. The survey closed on 14 June 2019. In October 2019 the final design (PDF, 7029KB) was determined.
