This upgrade will extend the dedicated cycle lane, improve road conditions, enhance drainage and provide new safety features along a key local route in Rosemount.

For the community, this means:

  • Safer cycling and driving conditions with improved shoulders and upgraded surfacing
  • Better connectivity between Paynters Creek Road and Sugar View Lane
  • Reduced long-term maintenance issues thanks to upgraded drainage and utility works
  • Improved visibility for residents entering Petrie Creek Road and increased room for motorist entering properties
  • A future-ready road designed to meet the growing needs of our region.

We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation while these important improvements are delivered.

This project is supported through the South-East Queensland Community Stimulus Program (SEQCSP).

Project Scope

The upgrade involves approximately 1.2 kilometres of works along Petrie Creek Road from the Paynters Creek Road intersection towards Sugar View Lane and includes:

  • relocating and upgrading a section of the existing water main
  • major drainage (stormwater) upgrades
  • road widening to include a dedicated cycle lane
  • new asphalt (bitumen) and line marking

Once the works are complete, Petrie Creek Road speed limit will reduce from 80km to 70km per hour.

To minimise impacts to our community including local businesses, works are being delivered in stages over several months.

Stage 1 will involve road, drainage and utility works on Petrie Creek Road for approximately 200 metres from Paynters Creek Road to Western Service Road intersection.

Stage 2 will involve road, drainage and utility works on Petrie Creek Road from stage 1 works for approximately 400m from Western Service Road to Eastern Service Road intersection.

Stage 2 will involve road, drainage and utility works on Petrie Creek Road from stage 1 works for approximately 400m from Western Service Road to Eastern Service Road intersection.

Stage 3 will involve road, drainage and utility works on Petrie Creek Road from Stage 2 works (Eastern service road intersection) through to Sugar View Lane approximately 650 metres.

Stage 3 will involve road, drainage and utility works on Petrie Creek Road from Stage 2 works (Eastern service road intersection) through to Sugar View Lane approximately 650 metres.

Stage 4 will involve guardrail, road surfacing, signage and line marking for the full length of the project, Bruce highway over pass to Sugar View Lane.

Traffic changes

Stage 1 and 4: Completed under a single lane closures and traffic control remain in place during work hours. Access remains available to all residences and businesses.

Stage 2 and 3: Due to the extent of works, including large stormwater culvert trenches many metres under and across the road surface, a full road closure of these road sections is required (day and night).

Without the closures in place, works would take twice as long and risk our community’s including construction workers’ safety.

Access will remain available to local residences and businesses via traffic controllers or detours via Paynters Creek Road.

Access to homes and businesses located between Sugar View Lane and the eastern intersection of Paynters Creek Road, will be from the eastern end of Petrie Creek Road only during this period.

Extensive signage including electronic message boards will be in place.

This approach is necessary to reduce construction time and complete the works as efficiently as possible. Please read the latest construction information below to stay informed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions

Quick answers to common questions

Petrie Creek Road is being upgraded and widened for the safety of our community. The upgrade involves approximately 1.2 kilometres of works along Petrie Creek Road from the Paynters Creek Road intersection towards Sugar View Lane.

Can I access my home or business during construction?

Yes. Property access will be maintained to homes and businesses via traffic controllers or detours. If access to a property is expected to be temporarily impacted (for instance when roadworks cross a driveway) a project team member will liaise directly with the resident/business concerned.

Will customers and staff know how to access my business during construction?
Yes. Extensive signage will be in place including electronic message boards that state businesses remain open/accessible during works. Traffic controllers will be in place as required. Businesses may also wish to update social media platforms and communications to staff that businesses remain open/accessible during works.

Has the safety and suitability of detours and other traffic control measures been considered as part of the project?

Yes. A Traffic Management Plan (TMP) has been designed by a professionally qualified, registered Traffic Management Designer (TMD).

Considerations of a TMP include, but are not limited to, existing and expected impacts to road conditions, traffic volumes, accessibility and connectivity to other locations/routes, sightlines, speed, emergency services access, signage and public transport.

The TMP is compliant with State Regulations.

Why is the detour required for that period?

Due to the extent of works required, including large stormwater culvert trenches under and across the road surface, a full road closure of some sections of Petrie Creek Road is required.

Without the closure in place, works would take twice as long and risk our community and construction workers’ safety.

A full road closure is the most efficient and effective use of time and budget for the project.

Access will remain available to local residences and businesses via traffic controllers or detours via Paynters Creek Road. Extensive signage including electronic message boards will be in place.

How much extra travel time will be required during the detour period (for Stages 2 and 3)?

Additional travel time should be allowed for during construction. The amount of additional time required will depend on the location of homes or businesses along Petrie Creek Road as different access points become available with each stage.

Additional travel times of between 5 minutes and 15 minutes should be considered. Please view the staging maps on Council’s website for further information.

Will the conditions on Paynter’s Creek Road be changed during the detour period?

The current speed limit will apply in accordance with the professionally produced TMP.

Council will continue to monitor conditions including additional liaison with Queensland Police Service if required. Regular maintenance programs including the slashing/mowing of vegetation will continue.

Will emergency services access (Police, Fire, Ambulance, SES) remain available to my home or business during construction?

Yes, Council will liaise with emergency services to notify them of the works, and detour routes in place.

Will school buses continue to operate?

Relevant schools will be provided with details of the detour route. Parents/carers of children are encouraged to liaise directly with the school concerned to confirm your child’s transport arrangements.

Will cyclists be informed of the works?

Yes. Council will liaise with local cyclist groups to inform them of the works and detour routes..

Will my waste collection services continue during construction?

Yes, Council’s standard general waste collection services will remain with Council’s official waste contractor, JJ Richards’ & Sons.

For businesses with private industrial bins, liquid tanker services, bulk haulage or skip services, please contact your contractor to discuss further.

The relevant contractor is welcome to contact our project team directly to discuss further.

Is business support available during construction?

Access to businesses will remain available during the project. Access maps will be available for businesses to share with customers and staff. Clear and frequent signage will be in place.

Council’s Economic Development Team has produced a Business Continuity Guide to assist businesses during construction projects. Visit Council’s Business Continuity web page to learn more and download the guide.
