Kings Beach Surf Life Saving Facility project
The ageing Kings Beach lifesaving facility is being replaced with a modern, safer and more accessible building for our community at Kings Beach.

Overview
The Kings Beach Surf Life Saving Facility on Ormonde Terrace has reached the end of its useful life. It can no longer support beach safety services the way it once did.
This year, Council will begin building a new, modern facility. It will be safer, more accessible and better suited to the needs of our community, lifeguards and lifesavers.
About the project
The upgrade includes:
- Demolition of the existing building.
- Constructing a new single‑storey, contemporary facility designed for its foreshore setting.
The new building design considers:
- the needs of lifeguards and lifesavers
- the iconic beachfront location
- local residences and public spaces
- the coastal pathway
- existing vegetation
- long‑term climate change impacts.
During construction, specialist beach safety equipment must be stored securely. Temporary storage containers will be placed on the hardstand area next to the Kings Beach Headland car park and water play area. These will be removed once equipment can move into the new facility.
Beach wheelchair and matting unavailable during construction
To ensure public safety during construction, the Kings Beach wheelchair and beach matting will be temporarily unavailable.
Alternative Council-supported accessible beach wheelchair services are available at Coolum Beach, Mooloolaba and Dicky Beach during this time.
More information is available on our Accessible Beach Program webpage.

Nearby project: Kings Beach saltwater pool resurfacing
We’re also undertaking important upgrade works at the Kings Beach saltwater pool during this time.
The internal surface of the pool has significantly deteriorated and now requires a full renewal. To complete the upgrade, the pool will be emptied, the existing surface removed, and a brand-new surface installed.
Works will improve safety and user experience, reduce ongoing maintenance and repair costs and ensure the pool is protected for many years to come.
Pool access
- The pool will be closed to the public throughout the renewal works.
- Machinery including hammer drills – will generate noise at times.
- Construction hours: 6.30am–5.30pm, Monday to Friday.
Timeframe
- The pool is expected to close from 20 April 2026 and reopen July 2026, weather permitting.
