Sunshine Coast Council is preparing a new planning scheme that will replace the current Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme 2014.

The proposed planning scheme has been carefully shaped by community feedback. It aims to help preserve the things we love about our region and build a bright future. It will guide new development based on an overarching vision for the Sunshine Coast, balancing local needs and regional planning requirements.

Formal public consultation on the proposed planning scheme

Between 15 July and 19 September 2025, Council invited the community to explore the Proposed Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme and share their feedback.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to understand the details of the proposed planning scheme and get involved.  Our Sunshine Coast community is passionate about the future of our region and generously contributed their thoughts and ideas. We heard from a diverse range of voices regarding many different aspects of the proposed planning scheme.

Click on the Proposed planning scheme (ePlan) tile below to explore the proposed planning scheme. Note: Decisions should not be based on the content of the proposed planning scheme at this stage, as it is subject to change following public consultation and the consideration of submissions.

Visit Council’s Have your Say website to explore the information that was shared during the formal consultation period to help the community understand the details of the proposed planning scheme.

Next steps

Council will now carefully review all submissions received during the consultation period. This process will help Council determine whether to proceed with the proposed planning scheme and what changes, if any, may be required in response to community feedback. This review will take time to ensure every submission is properly considered.

Once the post-consultation review is complete, everyone who made a submission will be notified of the outcome and receive a copy of a Consultation Report.  This report will summarise the feedback received and explain how Council has responded to the issues raised.

Even if you didn’t make a submission, you can still stay informed about key stages for the proposed planning scheme by signing up for project updates.
