With around 200,000 more people expected to live on the Sunshine Coast by 2041, it is important that we start to change the way we travel to support the quality of life valued by our residents and the many visitors to our beautiful region.
Council’s Integrated Transport Strategy outlines specific mode share targets to reduce car travel from 85% to 70%, increase active travel from 12% to 20% and increase passenger transport from 3% to 10% by 2041. Try one of the following modes for your next trip.
Community transport, taxi and rideshare
The Sunshine Coast offers numerous rideshare, taxi and personalised transport options 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our Public transport pages provide more information on these services.
Why not consider sharing your car? Carpooling has lots of benefits. You save on petrol, parking and car maintenance. You also help to reduce vehicle emissions, air pollution and congestion. Try creating a carpool with your colleagues, or other school families.
Park and walk or ride
If you live too far from your destination to walk or cycle, consider combining your journey with your daily exercise. Park 1km from your destination and walk or ride a bike or scooter the last part of your journey. This is a great way to get some exercise, enjoy our beautiful environment and make a difference to congestion in our business precincts.
Plan your travel with exercise. Walking reduces stress, improves fitness and helps the environment
