Catchment Management Bus Trip - CaNSCC sites

Article by Community Conservation Officer, Sunshine Coast Council

On Thursday October 19, 2023, representatives of catchment management groups attended a tour of the activities that the Coolum and North Shore Coast Care (CaNSCC) groups have been running since 1998.

The catchment management groups included members of Sunshine Coast Environment Council, Currimundi Catchment Care Group, Mary River Catchment Coordinating Committee, Petrie Creek Catchment Care Group, Lake Baroon Catchment Care Group, Take Action For Pumicestone Passage, Healthy Land and Water and Hinterland Bushlinks.

CaNSCC was established in 1998 and incorporated in 2000.  They have five very active groups between Coolum Beach and Mudjimba, who meet either weekly or monthly.

In the year 2000, they undertook planting for a ‘2000 trees for the year 2000’ to revegetate the dunes and a watercourse in Coolum Beach.  Linese and Birte (pictured) spoke to the tour attendees about outcomes they have achieved.  Leigh, president of CaNSCC, (pictured at Point Arkwright) delivered an informative speech on the history and aims of CaNSCC.

Advocacy and education are an important part of their volunteer activities.
