Council's creative arts team delivers a diverse program of professional development opportunities for artists. These are designed to develop artistic practice, improve industry skills and sustainability, and provide networking opportunities.

Unwritten models
Unwritten models is a mentorship program facilitated by Liz Burcham. It was delivered over 6 months in early 2022. The program supported the development of arts organisations on the Sunshine Coast and was designed to operate alongside the participating arts organisation to support its directors develop a sustainable business and operational model.
In 2022, Liz Burcham worked with IN ARI, The Old Ambulance Station, LJ Projects, RUN by Nicole Voevodin-Cash, Munnimbah-dja and LANTANA Space.
Curator professional development program
This program will introduce participants to the fundamentals of curating, including different exhibition types/spaces, curating for a local context; and practical information about funding, transport, documentation, installation, promotion and public programming. Participants will utilise the learnings of the program and work collaboratively to conceptualise, develop and present an exhibition at the conclusion of the program.
DISrupt
Based on the studio practice of Sunshine Coast artist, Alison Mooney, DISrupt was a short course for artists of any discipline comfortable with the uncomfortable, so to speak. Featuring guest presenters, collaborations, destructions, concept development and an inhouse project by course end, ‘disrupt’ is an opportunity for artists to amplify the essence of why they make. Moving through 4 Sunshine Coast contemporary arts’ venues participants gain real time experience of these spaces for consideration in their projects.
The path
The path facilitated by Kellie O'Dempsey, both a workshop and mentorship that guided artists through the development and production of a series or body of work of their design. Including group workshops, individual consultations and framework application. Processes and frameworks were established and discuss practice, how and why it is made, the works meaning and its historical and contemporary relevance. This facilitated process assisted artists to prepare, strategise and design a professional path towards future projects and proposal delivery for exhibition or presentation of their work for the arts industry.
Professional development day for public art artists
In partnership with Urban Art Projects (UAP), a full day program for artists to meet industry professionals working in a variety of aspects of public art development, including artists, designers, fabricators and curators in a unique professional development opportunity. The day consisted of a studio tour at UAP in Brisbane and discussion with industry professionals. The group traveled to QAG followed by an afternoon session with a unique opportunity to meet Robert Andrew, Lindy Lee and Backlash Creative for a presentation and Q&A and finishing off with gallery tour.
Artists were selected through a curatorial process to ensure the highest learning opportunity is provided for individuals and the group.
