Feature lighting is available on multiple Council owned buildings and assets.

Feature lighting will have most benefit where it is in highly visible spaces and connected to entrance statements or areas of night-time activity. By lighting up assets in specific colours, Council can raise awareness for important issues such as health campaigns (e.g., pink for breast cancer awareness) or support local and national causes.

The light-up of Council owned buildings and assets must only be for significant local, state or national events or awareness campaigns or causes that:

    • have a Sunshine Coast wide audience
    • benefit all Sunshine Coast residents (attracts more than 10,000 participants)
    • are of direct significance to the Sunshine Coast
    • are a national event represented in multiple states
    • are an internationally recognised day (e.g. International Women’s Day).

In approving an application to light-up Council buildings and assets, consideration must also be given to:

  • the reason for the display
  • any amenity impacts on public buildings and areas
  • the significance of the request
  • any conflicting requests
  • any potential discrimination in messages displayed
  • any relevant legislative provisions and planning requirements.
