Invasive animals

Learn about our region’s invasive animals, council’s programs and how you can protect your place.

A number of animal species have been introduced to Australia since European settlement. Some were deliberately released, whilst others escaped captivity. Either way, a number of these species established wild populations and quickly spread out of control.

We use the word ‘invasive’ to describe these animals as they are able to spread quickly and are difficult to stop.

Sunshine Coast Council acknowledges the Sunshine Coast Country, home of the Kabi Kabi peoples and the Jinibara peoples, the Traditional Custodians, whose lands and waters we all now share.
We commit to working in partnership with the Traditional Custodians and the broader First Nations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) community to support self-determination through economic and community development.
