Striate anglerfish

The striate anglerfish is a very intriguing species.

A striate anglerfish (Anennarius striatus) has been recently sited in Curriumundi Lake. It was first thought to be a stonefish, however further investigation confirmed its identity.

This fish has also popped up in surveys of Bells Creek. The image above is of one caught in Bells Creek during fish surveys. The Currimundi fish was darker but had the same markings. Colouration is highly variable in this species.

The striate anglerfish is a very intriguing species. View this video to see them taking a stroll and using a lure to attract their prey.
