Council’s waste strategy focuses on keeping recyclable items out of landfill and finding ways to give those items the longest life possible.

You can help support a circular economy and save money on tip fees by making sure only waste items end up in landfill.

Council tips have a resource recovery area where many items can be dropped off free of charge.

The following items are free to dispose of for domestic customers.

All items that are accepted in the yellow lid recycling bin are free to dispose of at council tips.

Scrap metal such as roofing iron, bicycles, etc

White goods such as fridges (degassing is not required)

Clothing – charity bin (accepted at Beerwah, Buderim and Caloundra)

Engine oil – up to 20L

Cooking oil – up to 20L (accepted at Beerwah, Buderim, Caloundra and Nambour)

Paint – up to 100L (accepted at Beerwah, Buderim, Caloundra and Nambour)

Household chemicals – up to 20L (accepted at Beerwah, Buderim, Caloundra and Nambour)

Electronic waste including printers, TVs, computers, etc

Printer cartridges (accepted at all waste facilities except Kenilworth and Yandina)

Mobile phones, chargers and cords

Gas bottles (accepted at all waste facilities except Kenilworth)

Car batteries

Fluorescent lamps (accepted at Beerwah, Buderim, Caloundra and Nambour)

Separating your load

Arriving at the tip with a mix of recyclable and landfill items means you’ll pay more than you need to.

Before you even get to the tip, check which items need to be kept separate to reduce fees at the weighbridge.

A garden organics bin is an easy and convenient way to manage your garden waste at home.

Each bin can take 80 kilograms of green waste, which is collected every fortnight from the kerb.
