The Keeper
Community and creatives work in public to uncover stories and create new narratives. The Keeper is about to visit Maroochydore.
The Keeper Project is a live public art project where artists work in a temporary role as observer, collector, maker and storyteller within a community. The Keepers are archaeologists of stories.
History of The Keeper
The project was developed in collaboration with Field Theory and piloted in Coolum in November 2019 with four Sunshine Coast based artists and a number of community groups.
The Keeper Project 2022 took place in Coolum. It involved over 10 Sunshine Coast based artists and creative practitioners along with numerous local community groups and businesses. The project commenced in May 2022 and unfolds until July 2023. It is supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund and Queensland Arts Showcase Program.
The Keeper journey continued in Namba/Nambour during 2024-25 with eleven local Keepers, in 2025-26 ten Keepers brought the project to Caloundra. Next up is Maroochydore.
