Shorebirds
About two thirds of the Sunshine Coast's shorebird species migrate from the northern hemisphere each year, some travelling distances up to 15,000 kilometres one way.
Celebrate the return of migratory shorebirds!
Join us for two free, family-friendly events to welcome these incredible feathered travellers. Come along to:
- Fraser Park, Golden Beach, on Saturday, September 27, 8–11am
- or Cotton Tree Park, Maroochydore, Sunday, September 28, 8–11am.
Enjoy face painting, crafts, games, shorebird exhibits, guided walks, and a beach clean-up with Poppy’s Oceanlife.
Learn how to protect these threatened birds that fly over 10,000km from Siberia and Alaska to feed on our shores.
You can help share our shores with shorebirds every day – watch from a distance, avoid nesting areas, control dogs and please take your rubbish home.
