Kids in Action is Sunshine Coast Council's award-winning environmental program for school-aged children. It aims to grow a culture that values caring for the natural world. Kids in Action brings together hundreds of students, teachers and local experts including First Nations custodians from across the region to collectively build skills and share learnings to help conserve the Sunshine Coast's spectacular environment. The program has a number of components: an immersive environmental projects day introduces kids to the yearly theme; incursions from KIA team and mentors support schools in undertaking a relevant project; and finally schools present their project findings and outcomes to other schools at the Sunshine Coast Kids-Teaching-Kids conference.

In 2020 Kids in Action won the prestigious Queensland Reconciliation Award (Partnerships) for partnering with Sunshine Coast First Nations communities to build skills and share knowledge about caring for Country. This year the Kids in Action Program will celebrate its 10-year anniversary with the theme Catchment Connections: Mountains to the Sea.
