Community native nurseries

Community native nurseries stock local native plant species and offer expert advice on choosing and maintaining plants.

Community native nurseries

Coast residents can play their part in looking after and saving local biodiversity, ecosystems and waterways by choosing plants that are not only native to Australia, but also native to the Sunshine Coast area.

Local native plants are ideally suited to local conditions, soil types and climate. They generally require less water, fertiliser and maintenance than non-natives, and provide shelter and food for local fauna species.

Community native nurseries grow and sell local native plants.  They offer free advice on choosing plants, planting and maintenance, and may offer opportunities to join in seed collecting, growing and care of native plant species.

Sponsoring native nurseries is one of many ways council partners with the community to ensure the ongoing protection and preservation of the Coast's plants and animals and its unique local plant communities.

Details of opening hours, services and volunteering are available on the nursery websites.
