During March, Sunshine Coast Council is offering an opportunity for new or existing businesses to apply for a three-year permit to operate businesses such as food vans, surf schools and beach equipment hire on public land across the region.

At the February Ordinary meeting, council endorsed 32 locations where high-use / high-impact permits would be available.

The permits will be valid from July 1, 2019 until June 30, 2022.

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the permits would be awarded for activities that benefit the community.

“The main purpose of public land is for community use and enjoyment,” Cr McKay said.

“The aim of the high-use / high-impact permits is to ensure that we achieve a balance between the community’s use of public land, small businesses wanting to use the land and the needs of existing and well-established businesses in the area.

“Council has designated a number of locations across the region where businesses can operate on public land, and specific, approved activities that can be undertaken at each location, ranging from coffee vans to sky diving.

Permit applications are now open.

Applications will only be accepted for approved activities and locations.
