See the beautiful coastline and waterways in a new light with Sunshine Coast Council’s free moon walks in January.

The 45 minute walks start at 7.30pm sharp at two locations—Lake Kawana on Tuesday 26 January and Cotton Tree on Friday 29 January.

Alison Hamblin, council’s Wellbeing Planning and Programs Manager, said the moon walks, part of council’s health and wellbeing program, aim to make being active easy for everyone.

“Day time schedules are sometimes so full it can be hard to fit in exercise,” Mrs Hamblin said.

“Enjoying an evening stroll by moonlight gives people an opportunity to get fit and healthy after the hustle and bustle of the day is over.

“The moon walks, led by local volunteers, follow a flat and easy trail with an easy pace that enables people to walk and talk at the same time.

“This is a great way to get out for the evening and spend some time with family and friends or even meet new people while exploring the beautiful waterways and coastline.”

For the Lake Kawana walk, meet Janet at the viewing platform on Sportsman’s Parade directly across the road from Kawana Aquatic Centre.

For the Cotton Tree walk, meet Len and Judith at the lit pavilion opposite Second Avenue, Cotton Tree.

Please arrive five minutes early so groups can leave on time and bring a torch, water bottle and dress for comfort. Walks will not occur in the event of persistent rain or storms.

More walks will be held throughout 2010 at each full moon so watch out for other opportunities to join in.

Visit the events calendar on council’s website for the full schedule and details.
