Visit Disaster Hub website for all weather updates

The latest weather forecasts remain consistent with earlier predictions that the Sunshine Coast may receive rainfall of up to 250mm or more within 24 hours, abnormally high tides, dangerous surf and damaging winds. The Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) will remain activated throughout the weekend.

The latest weather forecasts remain consistent with earlier predictions that the Sunshine Coast may receive rainfall of up to 250mm or more within 24 hours, abnormally high tides, dangerous surf and damaging winds.

The Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) will remain activated throughout the weekend.

Acting Local Disaster Coordinator John Gallina urged the community to prepare their homes and businesses for possible flooding.

“With the possibility of an east coast low situation like this, the weather can change very quickly and so it’s important the community is prepared in advance,” Mr Gallina said.

“If we do see 250mm of rain in a short period of time it is very likely there will be some flooding – water levels on the high tide on Saturday night and Sunday morning are likely to exceed the highest tide of the year.

“If you know from previous similar weather events that your home or business may be inundated with water, please be prepared.

“If you are concerned about the possibility of flooding please consider DIY sandbagging to help keep the SES available for those who are not able – there are instructions and a list of hardware stores who sell sandbags on the Disaster Hub website.

“ Disaster Hub also has all the information needed to be prepared before, during and after a severe weather event – including weather warnings and road closures.”

At this stage the weather has not impacted flights at Sunshine Coast Airport.

You should:

  • Move your car under cover or away from trees
  • Secure loose outdoor items
  • Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees
  • Beware of fallen trees and powerlines
  • Keep clear of creeks and storm drains
  • Surf Life Saving Australia recommends that you stay out of the water and

stay well away from surf-exposed areas - Check your property regularly for erosion or inundation by sea water, and if necessary raise goods and electrical items. For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
