Turf war looms in Felicity Park

It’s not easy being green, especially for the grass in Felicity Park at Caloundra.

The leafy corridor between Omrah Avenue and Bulcock Street is highly popular with locals and visitors but some of its shaded spots and pedestrian traffic have given the turf a tough time.

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said remediation works were set to be carried out by council to add more green to the ground.

“Felicity Park is a terrific spot in Caloundra that attracts a lot of people daily due to its close proximity to the library and gallery and the fact that it’s a great place just to sit and relax,” Cr Dwyer said.

“The large trees within the park create some heavily shaded areas that are fantastic for people but make it very tough for grass to survive year round.

“Council will undertake some works to improve the soil and lay a more shade-tolerant turf species that we’ve had some success with in another heavily shaded park in Moffat Beach.

“When future budgets allow, we’ll also be looking to provide some upgrades to the irrigation system within the park.”

Sections of Felicity Park will be closed from Tuesday November 11 through to December 1 to enable the works to take place and the new turf to establish.
