Sunshine Coast Council presents John’s Stories a pictorial style and sculpture exhibition of Indigenous artist John Murray at Caloundra Regional Gallery until 13 January 2013.

John Murray loves storytelling through his art. John is physically disadvantaged and has found that making art allows him to better communicate with those around him.

The very particular naive pictorial style and whimsical sculptures of John’s Stories transform the traditional creation stories, passed down by the wiggy (old people).

The paintings bring to life stories from daily Indigenous life including fishing, camping, living in the forest and family life. This exhibition also features an installation of the Bagu fire-spirit sticks, a strong set of sculptural forms.

John’s Stories also features an installation of the Bagu fire-spirit sticks which provide a strong set of sculptural forms.

John’s Stories is presented by Artslink Queensland’s Exhibition Touring Program in association with the Girringun Aboriginal Art Centre and supported by Tim Fairfax Family Foundation.

Artslink Queensland is dedicated to bringing quality visual arts into regional and remote areas supporting Queensland artists and communities in celebrating their creativity and diversity.

Caloundra Regional Gallery is open free to the public, Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm. For further information please call 5420 8299.
