Co-creator of the Earth Hour initiative Todd Sampson will headline the upcoming 2013 Living Smart Glossies Awards as keynote speaker for the event.

The announcement comes as tickets go on sale for the Glossies, which will be held at the Innovation Centre in Sippy Downs on Saturday 29 June.

Sunshine Coast Council’s Environment Portfolio Councillor Tony Wellington said Mr Sampson was a natural fit for the awards as guest speaker.

“The Glossies Awards celebrate the outstanding sustainability achievements of businesses, residents and organisations,” Cr Wellington said.

“Todd is an entrepreneur, and the co-creator of the Earth Hour initiative, which has been recognised and adopted internationally.

“One billion people participated in Earth Hour in 2009, making it the biggest single environmental action in history with regards to numbers of participants.

“Local residents, organisations and businesses will be recognised at the Glossies for the positive and innovative choices they’ve made with sustainability in mind.

“Now is the time to get involved in this year’s Glossies Awards. Nominations will close on Friday 24 May so get in quick.”

Mr Sampson, who is CEO of advertising agency Leo Burnett Sydney, said he was thrilled to be involved in one of the region’s premier sustainability events.

“There are great opportunities for innovators who can create better and more efficient systems, services and products; and for businesses that are committed to ongoing excellence,” he said.

“I encourage those who are on this journey, to consider the Glossies Awards as a wonderful way to profile these achievements.

“I’m honoured to be able to share my experiences with the Sunshine Coast community and look forward to meeting local people and business owners at the Glossies in June.”

Tickets to the Glossies Awards evening cost $40. For details on categories, to nominate, or to book tickets visit the website.
