Want a new job but not sure how to get it? The Sunshine Coast Job Show has everything covered.

As well as showcasing hundreds of available jobs from across the region, the August 20 event will show job-seekers exactly what it takes to land a job and pursue new career opportunities.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said the Council initiative aimed to provide job seekers with the tools to pursue their career ambitions.

“Wanting a job and looking for work is a great start but the other big challenge for job seekers is learning how to best present themselves to potential employers,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“The Job Show will include a comprehensive program of workshops run by industry experts that show job seekers how to maximise their employment chances and improve their job seeking skills.”

The Job Show is also supported by TAFE Qld East Coast, Max Employment and Indigenous Workstars.

TAFE Queensland East Coast General Manager Paul Wilson said everything from personal grooming to preparing a resume would be workshopped on the day.

“The Sunshine Coast has an expected employment growth rate of just over 3% for the 2015/16 period so it’s critical that job seekers possess the skills and attributes to stand out to potential employers,” he said.

“At the Job Show we’ll be hosting workshops that demonstrate how to nail an interview and how to avoid the biggest mistakes you can make in a job interview. There will also be expert help available for writing your resume, how to dress for a job

interview and how to look your best to potential employers on social media.”

“Queensland Community Foundation, a leader in State and National trust funds, will be awarding a scholarship to the value of $6000 to a Job Show attendee to help further their education, with a view to hopefully improving their career prospects.

“The scholarship can be used at any TAFE Queensland East Coast campus to contribute towards enrolment fees and course expenses. There will be a registration process with criteria obligations and the winner will be announced at the Job Show.”

Indigenous Workstars General Manager for Employment and Training Grant McDonagh said Indigenous job seekers would also have access to specialist advice and services at the Job Show.

“We’ll be there to help Indigenous job seekers register with us so we can help match their interests and ambitions to local positions that are available and industries they may have interests in,” he said.

“We’ll also be there to help put them in touch with other organisations that might be able to get where they need to go in terms of skills or employment.”

Max Solutions Employment Services Queensland General Manager Katrina Thompson said the hands-on skill orientated workshops at the Job Show were essential for job seekers.

“Having the right training under your belt before you apply for a job or enter an interview can make all the difference,” she said.

“Max Solutions is excited to be a supporting partner of the Job Show and we look forward to helping improve employment rates in this exciting region.”
