Following the success of the Old Skool Movie screenings at Sunshine Coast Council’s Arthouse Cinema Nambour the next classic film being screened is Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark at 7:30pm on Thursday, November 6.

Arthouse Cinema Nambour screens Old Skool classic films on the first Thursday of every month, bringing all of your favourites back to the big screen.

You are in for thrills as Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) confronts snakes, Nazis and one astonishing cliff-hanger after another in the chase to discover and open the mystical Ark of the Covenant.

It’s a hot sunny day in South America, and we meet a man wearing an old leather jacket, the five o'clock shadow (closer to midnight) wearing a fedora and carrying a bull-whip. He enters a cave only to be confronted by tarantulas, then spears are triggered, we discover a pit that must be swung over and then he outmanoeuvres more tiny poisonous darts from a secret chamber hidden behind the wall. Meet Dr Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones, Jr or Indy to his friends. Indy does all this to protect an ancient gold statue, which he manages to recover before being chased out of the cave by a giant boulder. Outside Indy is surrounded by Hovitos and his arch enemy named Belloq who forcibly takes the gold statue.  Indy makes his escape into a waiting plane only to find he is to share the passenger seat with a big snake – and he hates snakes.

And that’s just the opening scene….

Other memorable scenes include Marion having a shot contest in her bar in Nepal, or when she gets drunk with Belloq and tries to escape using a butter knife. And of course who can forget Indy's battle with the swordsman?

George Lucas created Indiana Jones in homage to the action heroes of 1930s film serials. This was the start of the empire Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles from 1992 to 1996, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008. Novels, comics and video games as well as Disney rides and attractions at Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea, and Disneyland Paris.

There are few movies that you can watch over and over again, but this is one of them. It has it all - action, romance, comedy, and suspense. From the start to the end you are hooked to this movie as we travel with Dr Jones one of the most exciting archaeologist ever.
