That Sugar Film to screen at Arthouse Cinema Nambour

Council’s Arthouse Cinema Nambour is proud to present two very special event screenings of the highly acclaimed That Sugar Film on Thursday, May 7 at 7pm and Friday, May 8 at 6.30pm.

That Sugar Film is one man’s journey to discover the bitter truth about sugar.

Damon Gameau embarks on a unique experiment to document the effects of a high sugar diet on a healthy body, consuming only foods that are commonly perceived as “healthy”.

Through this entertaining and informative journey, Damon highlights some of the issues that plague the sugar industry, and where sugar lurks on supermarket shelves.

That Sugar Film will forever change the way you think about “healthy” food.

Worldwide sugar consumption has risen 46% in the past 30 years.

Australian obesity rates are growing faster than anywhere else in the world and only 20 years ago one in 14 Australians was obese – it is now one in four.

In a major coup for the Sunshine Coast, Arthouse Cinema Nambour have partnered with Sunshine Coast Libraries to host a special Q&A presentation with renowned author and “real food” advocate David Gillespie following the screening on Friday night.

David Gillespie’s first book, Sweet Poison, published in 2008 is widely credited with promoting the current Australian wave of anti-sugar sentiment.

In his subsequent book, Toxic Oil, he takes the arguments in Sweet Poison and extends them to the widespread use of vegetable oils in the modern diet.

Located within the Nambour Civic Centre, the Arthouse Cinema Nambour screens arthouse, independent and foreign films weekly and also features special event screenings.

Tickets are $14 for adults, $11 for concessions and full-time students and $9 for Film Club Members and children.
