Sport and recreation users at the Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex are reaping the benefits from recent improvements delivered by Sunshine Coast Council.

Division 7 Councillor Ted Hungerford said there was no doubt the Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex is a significant facility that contributed strongly to the region’s sport and recreation network.

“Since the adoption of the Maroochydore Multi-Sports Complex Master Plan 2013 – 2028 in 2013 significant modifications have been rolled out improving the users’ experience,” Cr Hungerford said.

“These improvements provide significant benefit to clubs based at the complex and provides quality infrastructure expected by the community.

“I am happy to report we have recently completed an extension of the soccer clubhouse to improve change room capacity, canteen area and general storage space.

“Based on feedback from the sporting clubs, we have supplied an additional seven-bay storage shed and a new waste management compound. This will make the day-to-day operations for the groups much easier.

“On the AFL fields, we have constructed new coach and player boxes, refurbished existing coach boxes and provided an interchange bench to provide much needed protection from the elements for players and officials.

“These enhancements make the venue much more attractive to hosting large events like the AFL Sunshine Coast Juniors grand final and the Mission Foods Primary Schools Netball Cup.

“We have even attracted the attention of high-profile AFL teams including Hawthorn, Western Bulldogs and Melbourne who conducted their pre-season camps at this venue over last summer.

“We hold high hopes that these improvements will not only see them returning but other AFL teams following their path and hold their camps at Maroochydore.”

Clubs located at Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex include:

  • Maroochydore Australian Football Club
  • Maroochydore Junior Australian Football Club
  • Sunshine Coast Masters Australian Football Queensland
  • Sunshine Coast AFL Umpires
