South East Queensland (SEQ) is on the cusp of an international investment surge as the Asia Pacific region leads a strong rise in investment in the country’s commercial real estate, infrastructure and tourism sectors.
Council of Mayors (SEQ) Chair and Brisbane Lord Mayor Cr Graham Quirk today opened the Council of Mayors’ (SEQ) exhibit at the 2015 Asia Pacific Cities Summit, another way SEQ Councils are selling the region to the world.
"The world’s spotlight is shining brightly on our region and our councils are poised to take advantage of this current wave of international interest and create real business and job opportunities for SEQ," said Cr Quirk.
"From the $1 billion Jewel resort project leading a surge of Asian development on the Gold Coast to international insurer Youi basing its global headquarters on the Sunshine Coast, the location, lifestyle and opportunities on offer in SEQ are drawing big business to the region.
"The recent $635 million sale of Brisbane’s Waterfront Place - the biggest commercial transaction of the year and the biggest office sale in Australia since 2009 - shows the level of confidence the business sector has in SEQ’s future."
"Interest in the region also extends beyond our urban centres. In SEQ’s green belt, overseas investors are taking advantage of development opportunities in areas such as hospitality, logistics and agri-business which complement the primary production sector and connect with the natural surroundings."
The Council of Mayors’ (SEQ) interactive exhibit at this year’s Asia Pacific Cities Summit was also an important step to ensure SEQ remains top of mind for international investors, added Cr Quirk.
"Today, SEQ has been on show to the more than 1000 business and government leaders from more than 130 international cities registered for this year’s event. The Summit presents an unrivalled opportunity for SEQ to sell itself and its opportunities to the Asia Pacific region and beyond."
All 12 SEQ Councils are represented in a world-class exhibit on show until Wednesday as part of the 2015 Asia Pacific Cities Summit, held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The exhibit features the QUT Cube Globe, a world-first spatial platform using immersive visualisation, interactive maps, animation and multimedia design, to allow investors to easily explore trade and investment opportunities throughout SEQ.
