Residents are being asked to be prepared for Cyclone Hamish – to clean up around the home by tying things down or putting them away - and to listen to local radio stations for the latest information as the cyclone makes its way down the coast.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a cyclone watch for coastal and island communities from Bundaberg to Tewantin and Council’s Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group (SCLDMG) is now on Alert.
SCLDMG spokesman, Andrew Ryan, is calling particularly on Caloundra residents to work with council to make the area safe.
“Council has been conducting an annual kerb-side clean-up for this area with residents invited to leave their unwanted rubbish on nature strips for council collection trucks,” Mr Ryan said.
“In light of the cyclone warning – we are asking those residents to please remove those items and put them in garages or sheds until this cyclone passes.
“Council will have more vehicles on the road on Monday to try and pick up as much as possible but please work with us to make sure these items don’t become flying objects as winds intensify.
“Obviously council will continue with the kerb-side clean-up once the danger passes.”
