If you’re heading to Dulong lookout, one of the Sunshine Coast’s most-loved viewing spots, you’ll be happy to hear council has upgraded the car park to make access easier and safer for the growing number of people who enjoy the popular spot.

The project upgraded a gravel pull-over area on Dulong Road to six new car parking bays, including a disability bay, with parking also relocated to the same side of the road as the lookout.

The existing road was also lowered to improve vehicle visibility around the new car park, new kerb and a traffic island was added and the existing concrete path was extended.

Division 10 Councillor Greg Rogerson was proud to see parking at the lookout improved.

“This project is one which I had personally driven due to the very real safety concerns with young and elderly pedestrians having to cross this busy road to reach the lookout,” Cr Rogerson said.

“The new design has greatly enhanced the safety aspect and visual amenity in a lookout I believe to be the best on the Sunshine Coast.”

This is one of many car park upgrade projects funded through council’s Capital Works Program.

This project was jointly funded by Sunshine Coast Council and the State Government.

Main Roads and Road Safety Acting Minister Steven Miles said the upgrade was funded under the Queensland Government’s $3.2 million Scenic Lookout Upgrade Program.

“We established the Scenic Lookout Upgrade Program to help local councils revitalise existing lookouts across Queensland,” Mr Miles said.

“Lookouts on local roads are funded on a 50:50 basis in partnership with local councils, with upgrades on state roads receiving 100 per cent state funding.

“Dulong Lookout is one of the 28 scenic lookouts we identified for improvement through the program, which is all about encouraging tourists to stop and take in our spectacular scenery in regional areas.”
