Popular park in Eumundi’s main street gets playground expansion

A Eumundi playground and picnic spot loved by families from all over the Sunshine Coast has been expanded to include an impressive new climbing structure and slide sure to catch the eye of children visiting the town’s main street or the Eumundi Markets.

The upgrade to Dick Caplick Park also includes a new custom barbecue shelter, seating, pathways, and landscaping.

Mayor Mark Jamieson inspected the new playground with Division 10 Councillor Greg Rogerson and students from the local primary school today.

“The previous stage of upgrades at Dick Caplick Park saw the old equipment replaced and that was very well received by local children, so I’m pleased to see even more play elements added for them to enjoy,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“It’s a great spot to visit for a family picnic and just another reason for people from across our region to enjoy a day in Eumundi.”

Cr Rogerson said the park was a favourite spot for locals and visitors.

“Eumundi is one of the Sunshine Coast’s unique gems, a town with a special hinterland vibe, and this playground has been designed to suit that,” Cr Rogerson said.

“The greens and browns, with timber elements and rope features, fit the surrounding area nicely.

“Whether you’re stopping in with the kids after the markets or enjoying a lunch time barbecue under the shade of the fig trees, this park is definitely worth a visit.”

This is one of many playground upgrades funded through Sunshine Coast Council’s $237 million Capital Works Program.

Other recent playground upgrades include Heritage Park in Glass House Mountains, Meadowland Park in Yaroomba and Porter Park in Pelican Waters.

Features of the Dick Caplick Park playground (Stage 1 and Stage 2)

• The new tall climbing structure with rope nets, timber ladder and a slide.
• Roplay climbing ball and additional smaller play equipment
• Giant spinning wheel, the first of its kind on the Sunshine Coast
• A unique “rickety” play bridge suspended between the fig trees
• Improved pathway network
• Shaded by Eumundi’s historic fig trees and located next to barbecue shelters, an amenities building and plenty of seating for parents.
