Don't forget to register your furry friend

Now is the time to register your furry friends. Sunshine Coast Council animal registration renewal notices have been sent and are due by September 30.

The annual registration period for cats and dogs starts on October 1 each year and runs through until September 30 the following year.

Registration is an important part of responsible pet ownership and all cats and dogs must be registered with council.

Not only does registration information help council to reunite lost pets with their owners, it also helps council to plan for provision of services such as an animal pound, off-leash areas for dogs, litter bins where they are needed most and education programs to promote responsible pet ownership.

There are 47,139 dogs and 9628 cats registered with council, however it is anticipated there are many more that are currently not registered that need to be.

Significant registration fee discounts apply for dog and cat owners who have had their pets de-sexed and micro-chipped with the cost being just $13 or free for pensioners.

There is also the option of a lifetime registration for de-sexed and micro-chipped cats that is only $79 with no annual renewal required.

Registration is free for pets under six-months-old.

New residents to the Sunshine Coast can transfer their cat or dog registration for free, so if you’ve recently moved to the area now is the time to contact council and register your pet.

Dog registration is required under the Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008 Queensland and cat registrations is required under Sunshine Coast Council Local Law No. 2 (Animal Management) 2011.

There are several convenient payment methods available, including online payments via MyCouncil or BPay, over the phone or at a council customer contact centre.

Have your details or your pet’s details changed, or do you no longer own your pet?

Pet owners can notify council of changes to de-sexing, micro-chipping and pensioner details via MyCouncil.
