No purse pain at free movies in the park
Movie-goers can leave their wallets at home and enjoy a sci-fi thriller at a free outdoor movie screening at Caloundra’s Felicity Park on Friday 5 June.
Movie-goers can leave their wallets at home and enjoy a sci-fi thriller at a free outdoor movie screening at Caloundra’s Felicity Park on Friday 5 June.
The free movie session is being hosted by the Sunshine Coast Regional Underground Film Festival For Youth (SCRUFFFY) in the lead up to festival screenings beginning in June.
SCRUFFFY is an Australia-wide film-making competition with thousands of dollars in prizes and showcase spots up for grabs, plus workshops and screenings to suit all tastes.
The outdoor ‘Sinema’ is a popular free public event that will feature cult sci-fi films Attack of the Giant Leeches and The Brain that Wouldn’t Die.
The session opens at 6pm, with the first film starting at 6.30pm. There will be a free sausage sizzle happening during the evening, with vegan options available.
In the case of wet weather, the screening will take place in the old TAFE building next door to Felicity Park.
This year’s SCRUFFFY film festival has five competitions – comedy, animation, short narrative, horror and x-treme shorts (extreme sports).
Each competition is divided into under-18 and over-18. Winners will be chosen from each competition and overall finalists will have their short film screened at the Kings Beach Amphitheatre festival showcase, with the chance to compete for the Best in Festival prize of $2,000.
The film festival competition screenings will kick off in June 2009, with screenings at the Sunshine Coast Show on 12 and 13 July, and at the Homegrown music festival on 20 June.
