If you’re a not-for-profit community group needing a helping hand to fund a project, event or activity, make sure you apply for council’s Minor Community Grants Program.

Applications for Minor Community Grants of up to $2000 open today (September 11) and close November 6.

One recent cultural development grant recipient was Eumundi Combined Community Organisation Ltd for the Art for Art’s Sake projection animation as part of Eumundi Art Street project – a three-day event delivered during the 2017 Horizon Festival.

Eumundi Combined Community Organisation Ltd (Experience Eumundi) general manager Anthony Wynne-Hoelscher said council’s cultural development grant part-funded a grand-scale projection, Tripping the Art Fantastic, in the style of Sydney’s Vivid Festival that brought the face of the historic Highway Motors building at Eumundi to life for all the community to enjoy.

“Eumundi Art St was a collaborative arts event which featured local contemporary artists under the direction of well-known Sunshine Coast digital artist Beau Deeley,” Mr Wynne-Hoelscher said.

“This installation anchored our main street during the festival and was inspired by an eclectic mix of nature, science, art, music, technology, geometry, patterns and philosophy.”

Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said community groups could apply for a grant to assist with projects that benefit Sunshine Coast communities.

“The fantastic work created by Beau Deeley was an excellent example of the way in which our grants program can assist our creative artists to continue to pursue their passion for all the community to enjoy,” Cr McKay said.

“The grants are a great way for all sorts of community groups to obtain funding to help with their smaller, but important projects.

“If you’re considering a grant for your community group, please don’t hesitate to pick up the phone and give our grants officers a call.”

Community groups can apply for funding for one-off projects through one of seven categories:

  • Community Development
  • Community Facilities
  • Cultural Development
  • Cultural Heritage
  • Economic Development
  • Sport, Recreation and Healthy Living
  • Community Events.

Applications for minor grants will close at midnight on November 6, 2017.

For more information, to discuss your project or for assistance with an application, contact a grants officer on 5420 8616, email [email protected] or visit council's website.
