With a commitment to deliver quality sporting and community infrastructure to the Sunshine Coast community, Council has announced an injection of funding towards the expansion of the Maroochydore Eagles Basketball Association’s stadium at Buderim.

Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said Council had endorsed additional funding towards the design and construction of the association’s proposed multi-use indoor stadium expansion.

“I am pleased to announce this will result in a further two indoor courts being developed to complement the existing one court stadium,” Cr Dickson said.

“This expansion will further enhance sport and recreation opportunities for Sunshine Coast residents.

“Council’s injection of funds complements the State Government’s contributed amount of $871,000 from the ‘Get Playing Plus’ program.

“In addition to Council’s 2015/16 capital injection of $280,000, I have personally committed an additional $100,000 pledge from Council's Division Six contributions to ensure the project is delivered and prioritised by Council.

“It is envisaged Council will have necessary approvals, soil tests and surveys completed and engaged a design contractor by early to mid-December 2015, with finalisation of the project anticipated by December 2016.”

Councillor Dickson said to ensure transparency during the planning and development stages, Council would form a Project Control Group and invite two representatives from the Maroochydore Eagles Basketball Club committee to be part of the process.

“This group will be a part of the decision-making process and will be able to regularly update the broader membership of the club,” Cr Dickson said.

“The funding contribution is also evident of Council’s commitment to providing sports facilities that cater to the increasing needs and demands of population growth.

“The next couple of years will be an exciting time for the Maroochydore Eagles Basketball Association and Council looks forward to working closely with the club and State Government to deliver quality outcomes for sport on the Sunshine Coast.”
