‘Game Changers’ for business

Businesses can learn more about the many construction and supply opportunities arising from these significant developments at next week’s major projects forum at the Maroochy RSL.
Mayor Mark Jamieson said the event was the first of a series of major projects forums where local businesses can receive information on the significant regional projects driving growth as well as an industry view on current and future trends from the Master Builders Association.
“Next Tuesday’s event will feature the major developments of the Maroochydore City Centre, the Sunshine Coast Airport expansion, Mooloolaba foreshore redevelopment, Palmview, Oceanside Kawana and Aura at Caloundra South,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“Council in conjunction with the Department of State Development will deliver these forums to help industry and local enterprises prepare for tendering, supply or new work which in turn will help grow jobs and continue to build the region’s economy.”
Speakers at next week’s forum will include Avid Group General Manager Bruce Harper (delivering Palmview’s largest development), Stockland Sunshine Coast General Manager Ben Simpson (delivering the Aura and Oceanside Kawana building projects) Sunshine Coast Master Builders Association Regional Manager Will Wilson, Mayor Mark Jamieson and Sunshine Coast Council CEO Michael Whittaker.
The event is part of the series of major projects forums hosted by the Department of State Development throughout regional Queensland to keep industry and business up to date.

The significant investment pipeline of major projects within the region includes:
Maroochydore City Centre - The planned city centre in the heart of the Sunshine Coast is the only greenfield city centre in Australia within an existing urban area. Showcasing excellence in urban design, innovation and technology, the 53-hectare former golf course will include commercial, retail, residential and cultural precincts with 40 per cent of the site to be parks and waterways. The project will create an estimated 30,000 new jobs by 2040 and provide a $5.9 billion boost for the Queensland economy.
Sunshine Coast Airport Expansion – The development of a new runway, two end taxiway loops and navigation aids, expansion of the apron at the existing terminal, a new Air Traffic Control tower and access road and utilities will provide a broad range of benefits including, diversification in employment opportunities, enhancement in connections between Sunshine Coast business and the global economy, contribution of $4.1 billion to Gross Regional Product between 2020 and 2040, generation of 1538 direct and 693 indirect full time jobs by 2040.
Palmview- the Avid Group will be delivering Palmview’s largest master planned community, Harmony - the 378 ha site will cater for 5000 homes and 12,000 residents.
Aura and Oceanside Kawana – Stockland’s two key projects on the Sunshine Coast, Aura and Oceanside are communities that will house more than 60,000 people, generate $6 billion of direct investment and more than 60,000 long term jobs.
