Local apps among BlackBerry flavours of the year

Sunshine Coast Council has congratulated Coast company Tracknology for its amazing trifecta of recognition received from global mobile giant BlackBerry.

The Caloundra-based company, specialising in workforce software for mobile phones and helping clients keep track of their mobile costs, had three of its ‘apps’ recommended in BlackBerry’s worldwide Best of the Best Guide.

That’s three mentions out of only 27 companies selected – and that elite group was narrowed from more than 25,000 other hopefuls around the world – pitching Tracknology among some pretty exclusive company.

"To be named once in the publication is a privilege, but three times is unbelievable," Tracknology founder and director Stephen Walsh said.

"In the short term this will give us additional nationwide exposure in terms of expertise and credibility.

"We hope it will lead to further partnerships with industry and government," he said.

The company relocated to the Sunshine Coast from Sydney at the end of 2009 and this win could give it huge export potential.

Economic Development and Entrepreneurship Portfolio councillor Lew Brennan said Tracknology epitomised the bright future of the Sunshine Coast’s broadening economic base.

"Stephen and Lisa Walsh quickly identified the natural advantages the Coast has to offer digital industries such as Tracknology and are a great demonstration of how you can succeed in business in this region," he said.

"The company is a credit to our region as one of an increasing number of local businesses bringing home awards and achievements - which reflect so well on the Sunshine Coast business community overall.

"Council applauds Tracknology’s success and welcomes its involvement in showcasing how we can deliver on a diverse regional economy and jobs," Cr Brennan said.
