The opportunity for providing community feedback on Sunshine Coast Council’s suite of local laws closes on Sunday 11 September – make sure you have your say.

Local laws provide for the good governance of the many diverse communities in the Sunshine Coast region. Local laws are statutory instruments of law and are ultimately enforceable through the Courts.

Council has developed a suite of proposed local laws and subordinate local laws – reducing the number from 99 to only 13 – with the aim of achieving one functional, easy to understand, enforceable and contemporary suite.

The new suite will eventually replace the existing local laws for the region.

So if it’s important for you to do things like keep chooks in your backyard or walk your dog in a particular park… then Sunshine Coast Council wants to hear from you.

You can comment on the draft local law proposals until Sunday 11 September.

To find out how to have your say, and to follow progress of the draft local laws, visit council’s website, customer contact centres or libraries.

The Local Government Reform Implementation Regulation 2008 requires council to consolidate its existing local laws by 31 December 2011.
