With the idyllic Lake Kawana as your backdrop and the smooth sounds of cool jazz in the air, Sunshine Coast Council’s next Sundayze Series free community event is set to be a crowd pleaser.
Jazz by the Lake, will be held on the grassed foreshore of Lake Kawana Community Centre, Bokarina on Sunday 28 August from 1pm to 5pm.
Popular Brisbane jazz bands The Caxton Street Jazz Band and Greshka have been added to the local line-up.
The Caxton Street Jazz Band dominated Brisbane’s jazz scene for more than 30 years. The band’s roots are firmly planted in the hot jazz of the early 1900’s however, many other influences include big band swing, mainstream jazz, folk, country, rhythm and blues and popular music of the 30s, 40s and 50s.
Greshka is certain to liven up the atmosphere and get the feet moving with their modern concoction of upbeat Yiddish music, Russian um-pahs and Balkan grooves, all mixed with jazz, rock and western classical music.
Local talent to tap your feet to includes:
- renowned coast jazz duo, rhythm and blues soul-singer Michelle Brown and Johnny Maier on keyboards;
- effervescent musical brothers, Jazzerati, create rich jazz traditions of the past century whilst simultaneously exploring new directions in contemporary improvised music; and
- high calibre school band, The Sunshine Coast Grammar School Big Band, led by the esteemed Mr Charlie Simm.
Pack a picnic, bring a chair and chill out for a Sunday afternoon treat. Jazz by the Lake is an all weather event - if it’s raining the event will move inside the centre.
The Sundayze Series is held once a month from May to October, delivering individually themed fun and entertaining programs. Check out council’s " What’s On" calendar at council's website for more details.
