One of the best views on the Sunshine Coast will soon be easier to hike to and enjoy, with the second stage of an upgrade to Mount Ninderry’s walking trails and a new viewing area underway.

Materials for the upgrade were lifted onto the mountain by helicopter today.

Division 9 Councillor Steve Robinson said the new trail would make the hike even more enjoyable.

“This trail upgrade will provide stunning views out to the Blackall Range, north to Lake Weyba and across Mt Coolum to Mooloolaba, making the walk to the top very worthwhile,” Cr Robinson said.

“We’re lucky to have so many beautiful outdoor areas in our region and quality walking trails help our communities enjoy the active lifestyle so many of us enjoy.”

Division 10 and Local Infrastructure Delivery Portfolio Councillor Greg Rogerson said the current works were expected to be completed at the end of March.

“Constructing on a mountain means we have to do things a bit differently so a lot of thought and planning has gone into this process,” Cr Rogerson said.

“I think anyone who has hiked up Mountt Ninderry would understand why a helicopter was required to get the materials and equipment in place.

“It’s also a top priority for council to ensure there is minimal disruption to the vegetation and wildlife.

“We will have specialist wildlife spotters on site during construction to help with that.”

New directional signage will also be installed to help walkers enjoy the area.
