Health hub project rising from the ground

The Sunshine Coast’s multi-billion dollar health hub at Kawana is fast coming to life, with construction of the Pulse Oceanside Medical development — the first freehold space to be launched within the Oceanside Health Hub —progressing significantly.

Once complete, Pulse Oceanside Medical, located on Birtinya Island, will incorporate 4480m2 of medical accommodation, as well as a further 890m2 of ground floor retail space, and parking on the ground and first levels.

Evans Long director Matthew Evans said the project was quickly coming out of the ground, with concrete piling currently being finalised and slabs expected to be laid within the next month.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson, who visited the site with divisional councillor Peter Cox today, said the progression to the construction phase marked an important milestone for the Sunshine Coast community.

“As one of the region’s ‘game changer’ projects, the Oceanside Health Precinct will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the prosperity of our region both now and in the long term,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“Oceanside Kawana is a $5 billion development which is forecast to generate 12,000 new jobs, so it’s great to see the initial stages of this development taking shape.”

Mayor Jamieson said it was encouraging to note that a number of high profile businesses had already put their hands up to join Pulse Oceanside Medical, including blue-chip pathology company QML Pathology, which has signed a 10-year pre-commitment deal.

“The positive response already received from a range of medical businesses indicates commercial space in the area is bound to be in strong demand in the coming months and years,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“In fact, the close proximity of the Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital and Sunshine Coast Private University Hospital secures the longevity and sustainability of the area, bringing a broad range of allied health and other non-medical support services essential in meeting the needs of local patients and their families.”

The development is currently on track for completion towards the end of 2015 and signals one of the first opportunities for medical practitioners to secure a hold on part of Australia’s single largest investment in health infrastructure.

“We’ve already received a substantial number of enquiries from interested parties, and have struck pre-commitment deals for 60% of the available space,” Mr Evans said.

The Kawana Health Campus and the adjacent Oceanside Health Hub has a projected regional contribution of around $447 million per annum.

Pulse Oceanside Medical, a joint venture project by Evans Long and Engage Capital, will offer direct pedestrian access to the traffic-controlled intersection outside the private and public hospital sites.
