Grant recipients celebrate: A timely reminder for applicants

Tomorrow at 9.30am, Division 9 Councillor Vivien Griffin will celebrate with members of two resident groups from Edgewater Village at Bli Bli who recently benefited from the Sunshine Coast Grants Program.

Cr Griffin said funds from council’s Grants Program have helped the village’s singing group travel to regional nursing homes and aged-care facilities to entertain residents.

“Until now, the Edgewater Singers have met all their own costs, including the considerable investment in petrol to travel all over the coast,” Cr Griffin said. “Their efforts have now been boosted by a grant of $1000 which should ensure that their uplifting visits can continue for some time to come.”

“Additionally, $600 in grants funding has also benefited the keen group of lawn bowlers within Edgewater Village with the purchase of three bowling arms.

“Lawn bowls has long been recognised for its benefits to older people however some bowlers are no longer able to bend far enough to direct the bowl in its course along the green.

“The bowling arms work to extend the bowler’s reach and largely eliminate bending, meaning that bowlers can remain in the sport that gives them so much enjoyment.”

The celebration is a timely reminder to the community to get their funding applications in for the next round of Major Grants that closes on Monday 16 March.

Grants officer Jeremy Tibbits said the program provides a range of grants to encourage, engage and support individuals and groups in the community to make a positive and ongoing contribution to the region.

“The Grants Program gives council the opportunity to recognise the vital contribution community groups and individuals play in making our region such a great place to live, work and play,” Mr Tibbits said.
