Sunshine Coast Council invites the community to be inspired by an exhibition from Moreton Bay artist, Cernak, at Noosa Regional Gallery from Wednesday 27 February to Sunday 7 April 2013.

Accomplished artist, Cernak was Brisbane’s first Community Arts Officer and had a strong involvement in Mail Art and performance while establishing the then Artists Union and Poets Union before moving to Sydney.

Cernak remained involved in combining performance and art with Jan Orr and Robert Boulez, while illustrating for The Bulletin and the Sydney Morning Herald. After living in Vienna and Melbourne, Cernak returned to Queensland where she lectured at the Queensland Art Gallery.

Cernak’s exhibition Changed: everything changes; we are changed by everything is a stunning collection of paintings, that are all designed to uplift with their beauty, to startle with their multidimensional contrasts and to intrigue with their microscopic detail. They can be seen and read on several levels.

“Art is nothing without connection to life.

In the Big Picture, in evolutionary terms, art re-connects us to Nature, history, community, place, ourselves.

It re-affirms all our relationships. Most importantly, it connects us with Meaning, no matter how humble it is.

No matter how humble our skill or harrowed our times.

Those of us who have made their professions of it have learnt to go between the Worlds and function as shamans.

We are every kind; our worlds are cross-cultural and multi-dimensional.

Our Times are how we changed” Cernak.

Changed: everything changes; we are changed by everything will be officially launched at 6pm on Friday 1 March 2013. All welcome to attend, bookings are essential by visiting council’s gallery website or by calling 5449 5340.

Noosa Regional Gallery is open free to the public, Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm and will be closed Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.
