Construction on the highly anticipated $18 million Brisbane Road car park redevelopment in Mooloolaba is taking shape, with a 28 metre crane now on site and gracing the skyline.

The eight-storey multi-deck car park will increase the number of parking spaces from 176 to more than 700.

Division 4 Councillor John Connolly said the crane’s arrival marked a major project milestone.

“The new multi-deck car park will make it easier for our community to access the beach, foreshore, shops, cafes and restaurants that continue to attract people to Mooloolaba,” Cr Connolly said.

The Brisbane Road car park construction crane is forecast to remain onsite until the end of October 2020, weather and site conditions permitting.

Council is continuing to liaise with the Mooloolaba community to keep them informed of construction activities on this vital piece of community infrastructure.

“The new multi-deck car park is one of many projects council has invested in to benefit Mooloolaba residents and visitors,” Cr Connolly said.

“The $7.5 million upgrade of Walan Street to four traffic lanes, part of the multi-stage Mooloolaba Transport Corridor Upgrade is also underway.

“The upgrade will improve connectivity in the heart of Mooloolaba and improve safety for all road users.”

Council recently delivered the $3.8 million Mooloolaba Beach Holiday Park, the $5.15 million Mooloolaba Walk and Ride Bridge at Mayes Canal and the $2.5 million Mooloolaba Boardwalk Redevelopment.

Council has also been continuing with the expression of interest and tender processes for the southern parcel fronting Brisbane Road and First Avenue.

An extensive evaluation process has identified a Preferred Respondent and council is moving to negotiate suitable agreements with that Preferred Respondent.

The new eight storey multi-deck car park will deliver:

• more than 20,000sqm of additional parking spaces

• more than 700 parking spaces, with a further 54 motorcycle spaces and 50 bicycle spaces

• ground floor retail outlets facing First Avenue

• vehicle entries from Brisbane Road and Smith Street
