MY passion for sport and encouraging people of all ages –and especially our kids – to get active is well-known.

So I’m pleased to see the next stage of the Caloundra Rugby Union Club upgrade has now started.

The $635,000 project is expected to be completed by late August and has been funded by Sunshine Coast Council, the State Government and financial and in kind contributions by the club and its sponsors, including Bendigo Bank.

The old change rooms will be replaced with four new change rooms, a referee room, first aid room and amenities and the deck will be extended.

While club members will benefit from the upgrade, it will also provide a shot in the arm for the club’s reputation as a great venue for district competition.

Preserving the SS Dicky

There has been much interest around the future of the SS Dicky wreck.

As you all know, the wreck is breaking up quickly, and time (and tide) are against us as this piece of our past slowly but surely disappears.

The experts will report their findings to council over the coming months and we will be guided by their advice as to whether the SS Dicky can be relocated within close proximity to its resting place.

For me personally, I think it is important to tell the SS Dicky’s story and to have something to show future generations who have not had a chance to see it.  Watch this space.
