Airport achievements

Sunshine Coast Airport has had two huge wins recently, starting with becoming the first Australian airport to achieve a carbon neutral accreditation. The program recognises airports around the globe for managing their carbon emissions and reducing carbon footprints. This has been achieved through rain water harvesting, energy savings, LED lighting and smart building technology, and a solar-powered composting apparatus.

This was followed by a win at the Routes Asia 2017 Marketing Awards recognising the airport’s marketing campaigns and route development achievements. The annual awards recognise excellence in airport marketing and are highly regarded as the most prestigious awards in the industry. This achievement demonstrates the regard in which our Sunshine Coast Airport is held throughout the Asia Pacific region. These are both outstanding achievements by General Manager Peter Pallot and his team.

New viewing areas at Mt Ninderry

I went along to Mt Ninderry recently to watch as a helicopter lifted materials for new viewing areas. It was great to watch the action and see this project coming together – it will make easier to hike to and enjoy one of the best views on the Sunshine Coast. I encourage you to hike to the top when it’s finished for stunning views out to the Blackall Range, north to Lake Weyba and across Mt Coolum to Mooloolaba.

Sports field funding

Applications are now open for council’s Sports Field Maintenance Funding Program, which helps eligible sporting groups keep their sports fields in tip-top shape. Applications close May 8 and details are on council’s website.

Meet and greet

I’ll be outside the Bli Bli IGA on 11 April at 9-11am if you would like to come along to chat about local issues.
