Cr Dwyer - State road reserves need a tidy up

Ahead of next year’s state election, I’m encouraging residents to contact their local State Members of Parliament and election candidates to tell them what they want them to deliver during the next term of office.

As well as funding for region-wide issues and infrastructure projects here in Caloundra, on my list is clearing weeds and grass at the Caloundra turnoff and maintaining the high-profile entrance so it is a welcoming sight for residents returning home and tourists visiting our beautiful area.

Our town has taken out numerous state and national Tidy Town Awards and I feel we are being let down by the State Government due to the condition of our township’s entrance which is not up to scratch because of a lack of road reserve maintenance.

The same applies to other high profile state roads around the area.

By advising our MPs and election candidates our concerns, we will hopefully achieve better results in the future.

CBD parking amnesty

At the recent Caloundra Chamber of Commerce meeting, members moved to seek Council’s agreement to a Christmas/New Year parking amnesty in the CBD.

I certainly support this annual parking amnesty and will be seeking the support of my Council colleagues at an upcoming public Council meeting when the issue will be discussed.

If approved, drivers will be able to park for free, however time limits will still apply to ensure parking turnover and encourage more customers to shop locally.
