Council urges care during Easter break

Have fun but be prepared.

That’s the message from Sunshine Coast Council to local residents during the extended Easter weekend break.

Local Disaster Management Group Chair, Councillor Tim Dwyer said residents and visitors should take extra care to ensure their safety.

"Council encourages everyone to be prepared over this extended Easter break by tuning into warnings on possible weather events," he said.

"Extra care should also be taken at the beach to swim between the flags and when travelling on local roads during what is a very busy time, especially in the event of wet weather."

Cr Dwyer said Sunshine Coast Council would have field crews on standby over the Easter holiday period in preparation for any extreme weather events.

"All of council’s major depots will provide an out-of-hours service to respond to serious incidents notified to council," he said.

"Council’s fleet of trucks and machinery will be fuelled and ready to respond to problems on local roads, including large potholes and fallen trees.

"This service is a 'make it safe' service only however we have the ability to call in additional staff as required.

"We use a ‘hope for the best but prepare for the worst’ ethos during this unsettled weather to ensure that if the worse does occur we can quickly deploy to protect the public infrastructure."
